Though he had supporting roles in 2010′s ridiculous horror comedy Pirhana 3D and the elderly actioner Red, it's been a while since Richard Dreyfuss has made a big impact in the film world. The legendary star of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, American Graffiti, and Jaws has stayed busy by working every year except 2005 since the mid 1980s, and with no intentions of slowing down any time soon, he's giving himself more opportunities to leave his mark. Variety reports that Dreyfuss has secured two roles, one in the corporate espionage thriller Paranoia and another in an indie drama called Very Good Girls. Read on!
Paranoia stars Liam Hemsworth, Harrison Ford, Gary Oldman, and Amber Heard and follows Hemsworth as a young man who is blackmailed into spying on a rival company. Very Good Girls is a smaller project with Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen starring, following two girls who fall in love with the same boy (Anton Yelchin) after they graduate from high school and pledge to lose their virginity.
Variety isn't very helpful here because they don't know what roles Dreyfuss will play in either project. I've speculated before that Oldman and Ford will play the rival executives in Paranoia, but Dreyfuss could just as easily take one of those slots. As for Very Good Girls, he's old enough to be playing a grandfather to either Fanning or Olsen, so perhaps we'll see him offering romantic advice and a shoulder to cry on during the emotional turmoil of the movie. Regardless, I'm glad to hear one of America's most iconic actors is continuing to sign on to projects with a lot of promise, and I'm especially excited to see him share the screen with fellow legends Ford and Oldman when Paranoia comes out next year.
