I think that the end product is a wasted opportunity. This film could have been so much more, but it lacks the bite it needs to lift it above average. The cult that Martha escapes from should have been explored in greater detail. Despite the fact that Patrick drugs and rapes the new recruits, which is obviously very wrong, every female member of the group gives themselves willingly to the male members (excuse the pun). Overall, it gives the impression that it is no more than a hippie commune. Patrick's philosophy is never revealed. Martha has a few small bruises which indicates that there was an element of violence, but this is not taken further than a remark from Katie. One of the things that niggled me was when Watts found her at the diner after her escape. Why didn't he take her straight back to the group? I didn't get the impression that he simply let her go as there was an air of menace about him.
Unfortunately, the film loses its way and never recovers.
