King of the Monsters | N O I R

Godzilla-Reboot-Teaser-PosterAs promised today’s post is all about The King of the Monsters, oh, you know the Japanese lizard creature also known as, Godzilla. Now I have been a fan of Godzilla ever since I was a little girl, I know that may sound a little strange, but growing up my sister and I would spend most summers at my grandma’s house and back then she didn’t have cable (weird right??). So obviously we would watch old movies on VHS which were left from my uncle’s collection, who had been a big fan of Godzilla growing up too. My sister and I were first introduced to this creature when I was about 7 years old, and for whatever reason two little girls from the burbs took a liking to this iconic creature. Once I found out sometime around last year that Warner Bros. Studios and Legendary Pictures had announced they were filming Godzilla I immediately told my sister and we were naturally super excited! Finally there was another version and this time it looked promising!

This version simply entitled Godzilla and starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, and Bryan Cranston and directed by Gareth Edwards was exactly the motion picture I had been waiting for a film studio to release. The film was much darker than the 1998 version, which was kind of a mess (okay who am I kidding it was a complete disaster). And this year’s Godzilla was more true to the style of the original Japanese films with the whole idea of an anti-hero, which I really liked since we are never too sure if Godzilla is good or bad. Another aspect of the film I liked was the slow build up to the introduction of Godzilla on screen. The audience was kept in apprehension with some explanation of the origin of the creature, and the storyline of a man’s struggle trying to prove that something other than a radiation accident was the source of strange happenings. If you are a fan of the original Japanese films then I strongly recommended that you go see Godzilla. Not only is the storyline interesting and suspenseful, the acting superb, and the special effects amazing, but Godzilla himself once again solidifies that he is truly still the King of the Monsters.
