When you first read the title, you might be wondering what this movie is going to be about, because the title says literally nothing to you. We don’t have a trailer that clearly says what’s going to happen, we have no clue at all. The only thing we know is that there will be a reunion of all the X-Men generations. We will see young Charles (James McAvoy) and Erik (Michael Fassbender), who will try to unite again with the help of their older selves, Professor X (Patrick Stewart) and Magneto (Ian McKellen). We will see Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Logan (Hugh Jackman), Storm (Halle Berry), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Iceman (Shawn Ashmore), Shadowcat (Ellen Page) and some new mutants, like, my personal favorite, Quicksilver (Evan Peters), Bishop (Omar Sy), Blink (Bingbing Fan) and many more. There are heaps of characters that we have to take in account.
In the present, huge mutant-destroyer machines are on to all the mutants, of course, to kill everyone. These machines were designed decades ago by Dr. Trask (Peter Dinklage) and nobody can fight the machines at present, because they were developed to adapt to any circumstances, using Mystique’s DNA. Professor X and his buddy Magneto decide to send Logan back to the past to solve the issue and get rid of these evil machines. To do that, he has to find Charles, Erik, and Mystique and stop her from her evil/good plans to save the mutants that will cause everyone’s death.
Throughout the movie, they go around finding all the mutants in the past that they need help from, then for quite a long time they look for Mystique and try to convince her to stop. Of course in the last second, when almost everyone is dying in the present, Mystique stops and changes her course of action in the past, and that is pretty much what happens in the movie. However, it is a great movie, because we get to see whole X-Men world. Ok, almost everyone: Rogue’s scenes were completely cut out. I don’t know why they showed her in the trailer then…
I was very pleased by Quicksilver’s performance. ‘Pleased’ is even a small word to describe Evan Peter’s performance. The scene when Quicksilver runs around Pentagon’s kitchen was the funniest and most amazing scene in the whole movie. And yes, we shall see him back in X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)! While watching the movie you might have noticed something about Quicksilver… Remember what he said when he met Erik and told him his mum once knew: “a guy that could move metal as well”, and at the end of the movie Quicksilver, his mum and a baby watch TV with Erik on the screen… That baby is Scarlet Witch and both her and Quicksilver are Erik’s children! How mind-blowing is this?? Interestingly, we will see both of them, but in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) and with Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen as Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. Wow, Quicksilver must be truly quick to have time for both movies.
And… Umm… Weren’t Logan’s claws cut off in the previous Wolverine (2013)? We could still see his metal claws on his right hand in X-men: Days of Future Past. But I guess the creators can easily explain this phenomenon. Perhaps, they have just restored them? They have found unique metal and made his claws again? The whole movie seemed to be slightly confusing.
The after credit scene… I thought to myself, Whaaaaat did I just watch? How does this even relate to X-Men? But wait, this is the glimpse of what will happen in X-Men: Apocalypse. The grey guy that seems to rule people in Egypt and moves or builds pyramids is the first mutant ever. We also get a glimpse of four horsemen behind who are mutants as well. The grey guy’s name is Apocalypse and he possesses unlimited powers, such as genius brain, manipulation, teleportation and immortality. Honestly, I wasn’t thinking another sequel can be done, but this is actually happening! Apparently, the next movie will take place in the 80’s, which is awesome, because I really want to know what happened in between, after Logan has saved everyone and before he woke up at the school. We shall see, we shall see…
